Some Thoughts on Photography

Photography is fun. It doesn't matter what type of camera you have, you are able to preserve memories for a lifetime. The only important rule in photography for me? There are no rules! Shoot your photos from your own perspective, not someone else's. Yes, there are the rules of third that everyone tries to get you to follow. Maybe you will and maybe you won't. The main thing you need to do is see your subject through your own eyes and through your own perspective. That is what I do and I love taking pictures. When I try to follow all the instructions that are out there about shooting, lighting, subject placement...well, I go insane. So relax and enjoy. Photography is supposed to be fun!

"I don't want life to imitate art. I want life to be art."  -Emad Hasan

Emad got it right. Life is art. Look around you at the many photo opportunities you have. Your children. Your parents. Your pets. These are just a start. Loads of great opportunities abound in your life. Start snapping and capturing the art of life.

"To the complaint, ' there are no people in these photographs' I respond, 'there are always two people; the photographer and the viewer.'"  -Ansel Adams

Sometimes these two people are one and the same. If you have a favorite photo of a landscape or flower, display it. Enjoy it. Surround yourself with the beauty that emanates from your photography.

Early Dawn - Photo by Dad

Early Dawn - Photo by Dad

Photography can be fun, despite the early hour and the cold weather.  Dad took the picture to the right as we were setting up to take pictures of the hot air balloons ascending from the floor of Palo Duro Canyon.  Though the lighting was bad (we were facing East as the sun rose), it was still great fun for both of us.  Needless to say, we were happy to return to the car as soon as we could; the chill of the West Texas wind can be biting.

Don't treat your second camera as just another camera.  Each camera does something different and better than another camera.  Treat your additional cameras as additional lenses and you will be happier with your results.

Another self portrait.

If you get the chance, play with your photos.  The special effects are endless.
